A Social Enterprise

Academ-e is the result of an innovative business model that taps the synergy of partnering the private sector with the social (or non-profit) sector.

Academ-e represents a revolution in how people will teach and learn in the future and a revolution in the way we will do business and serve our communities.

In 2002/2003, ATN participated in a feasibility study, funded by the federal government, designed to explore the value of e-learning for community based training agencies. A one-year pilot was launched using an existing commercial product which was deemed too cost prohibitive to continue with.

ATN chose to develop its own elearning management system that would address three key components:

  • Ease of use; for both administrators and end users
  • Low cost
  • Flexible

It soon became apparent that other organizations could also benefit from such a platform, and in partnership with our programmer and two local companies, Academ-e Online Classroom was born.
