ITAT Volunteer

The Inclusion Through Access to Technology (ITAT) program makes it possible for people with serious disabilities to learn about computers by utilizing volunteer instructors and donated equipment to teach basic computer skills to participants in their own homes.

Factors such as inaccessible classrooms and equipment, limited transportation and expense are some of the reasons people with disabilities are unable to be involved in traditional training. This is where ITAT volunteers make a difference.

Volunteer tutors teach basic computer skills to participants in their own homes. These skills enhance the quality of their lives and offer opportunities for community involvement previously denied – everyday things like writing a letter or sending an email.

This program also offers you an opportunity to give back to your community along with the personal satisfaction gained from helping others.

Time Commitment: The volunteer is required to commit 2-3 hours a week for a minimum of 10 weeks.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  1. Teach computer skills to an individual with a disability.
  2. Develop training materials to leave with participant, if necessary.
  3. Participate in training sessions, if necessary, to increase skills.

  • Patient and compassionate
  • Able to work independently
  • Good working knowledge of computers (Internet, email, word processing)
  • Enjoy working with people as well as computers
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn some access technology (if necessary)
